”An Ambient Decade’ marks the 200th release on Whitelabrecs and celebrates ten years since the label launched back in January 2016. The compilation brings together music from across the catalogue, reflecting on how the label began, how it has changed, and the artists and moments that shaped it along the way.

Rather than acting as a ‘best of’ sampler, ‘An Ambient Decade’ is structured chronologically. Each track represents a specific year of the label’s history and was chosen because it marked a particular moment, change, or progression – whether this be creative, practical or personal. Taken together, the album forms a snapshot of the label’s evolution across the course of a decade.

The gatefold CDr edition includes artwork by Zoë Heath and a 24-page booklet, which is also available as a bonus PDF download with the release. The booklet documents the label year by year, sharing background on landmark releases, collaborations and milestones, alongside artwork and written reflections. It’s intended as a companion piece to the music, offering context for listeners who want to explore the catalogue more deeply.

For the first 50 orders, the release also includes a bonus mix CD titled Harry’s Personal Collection. This is presented on a gold vinyl-effect CDr with a white rubber-stamped inner label, in a similar style to the early Whitelabrecs editions. The mix is a single continuous track, moving chronologically through the label’s history. I interject throughout the mix to share short stories and personal memories connected to specific releases and moments.

While ‘An Ambient Decade’ looks back over the last ten years, it also sits alongside a period of growth for the label, including the launch of sister label Driftworks and the Inner Echo community platform. The compilation is intended both as a document of where Whitelabrecs has come from and as a marker before moving forward to the next chapter.’ listen
