‘We are in the middle of our second season and the year of 2017 is starting to transform. The days are getting longer and the shadows shorter. Grey becomes blue, brown turns into green and stiff becomes vivid, a change that cycles every year. But there are also transformations that aren’t frequently and obvious: The alterations, which happen in life – uncontrollable without a definable start or end.

Sven Laux is going through one of these transformations. In his early years he was known for his minimal techno. His remarkable way of microsampling, his use of textures of glitches and cuts paired with rolling grooves became a trademark for him. With time passing by he increasingly made use of synth sounds, pads, chords and atmospheres. Then he reduced the beats, the first downtempo track was released. Sven played more and more with keys and synths. The first ambient and drone tracks appeared in his discography. He studied the structure of orchestral compositions and became obsessed with soundtracks. This led to the first sound work for trailers and even award winning films like Courage.

It’s about time to take a closer look at his ongoing change. A year ago we invited Sven for an episode of POOLcast. And even in this past year you can clearly hear how his music changed. Back then there were drones and scapes, ambient music with clusters of experimental textures. Nowadays the transformation into a composer of soundtracks is nearly finished. The second POOLcast episode of Sven is full of soundscapes, pianos and strings, beautifully arranged.

You are invited to witness this audible transformation.’
